Hey Guys Today I decided to include Potlakaaya/Snake gourd recipe in my menu because of its nutritional values and good taste, and its easy to make a recipe that doesn’t use much ingredients and time. Now let’s talk about Potlakaaya/ Snake gourd and its nutritional value.
Snake gourd, like other gourds is part of the Pumpkin family. They’re very long , slender, and often wriggly like a snake, and they’re about to reach 1.5 m in length. There are several vernacular names in India, such as Chichinda or Padwal in Hindi and Potlakaaya in Telugu , Chichinga in Bengali, Pudalankaai in Tamil and Padavalanga in Malayalam.
The goodness of this green colored vegetable has been well known for its important medicinal value since ancient times and is extensively recorded in the Ayurvedic texts. Snake gourd naturally grows in the wilderness of South-East Asian countries such as India , Sri Lanka , China , Nepal and Indonesia.

POTLAKAAYA FRY/SNAKE GOURD FRY HOME STYLE
- 1 POTLAKAAYA/SNAKE GOURD (MEDIUM SIZE)
- 2 TSP OIL
- SALT (PER TASTE)
- 2 TSP RED CHILI POWDER
- 1/2 TSP TURMERIC POWDER
- 3 RED CHILI DRY
- 3 GARLIC CLOVES
- 3 GREEN CHILIES (WELL SLICED)
- 2 TBSP ONION (WELL CHOPPED)
- 1/4 TSP MUSTARD SEEDS
- 1/4 TSP CUMIN SEEDS
- 1/4 TSP URAD DAL
- 6 CURRY LEAVES
Take a medium size Potlakaya/Snake gourd and take away the whitish and clean it on running water and chop them into small pieces removing the seeds.
Now again clean during a water and add turmeric powder and mix it well and keep it aside.
Now take a small Onion and green chilies and chop it finely and keep it aside.
Now take a pan and add the oil and warmth it on a coffee flame for a couple of seconds and add the mustard,cumin seeds,Urad dal, red chilies,crushed garlic cloves and curry leaves and mix for a short time until the seeds break.
Now add the chopped onion and green chilies and stir for a short time until they turn to a light-weight brownish color then add chopped potlakaya/snake gourd and fry it for few seconds and add red chili powder, salt and mix well and canopy with a lid.
After a couple of minutes stir it occasionally and watch the pieces turn soft and well fried ,and now cut the flame.
Finally move the recipe to a fresh bowl and serve with hot rice.
